This project was a bit like liberating the urban landscape that nearly one hundred Residents had missed while the car park was turned into a builders yard during some major refurbishment works. Once the construction company cleared away the Porta Cabins, they had to remove a large number of timber sheets used to protect the car park itself. No one knew the extent of the problem until the car park substrate was exposed and it was my job to clean whatever remained.

What I did

I used a mechanical brush to sweep the entire area to avoid making the mess worse than it started and then progressively cleaned the walls from the top down and the tarmac from the edges to a series of ‘water collection’ points. This water management is key to avoiding making a difficult situation worse and allows me to separate detritus from water before allowing the water down the drain. In reality, the whole area simply needed some considerate and consistent washing down and this was accomplished in a single day.
